What is GI?

What is gastroenterology or GI? Gastroenterology is a medical specialty or study dealing with digestion and the digestive system. Gastroenterologists diagnose and treat disorders of the stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas, including ulcers, tumors, inflammatory diseases (such as ulcerative colitis and ile-itis), and rectal disorders.

After five years of Internal Medicine training, GI physicians do an additional three years of training for gastroenterology (a total of 7 years training after medical school.)

What is hepatology? Hepatology is the branch of medicine that incorporates the study of liver, gallbladder, biliary tree, and pancreas as well as management of their disorders.

Many people are unaware that they have a GI disorder. If you have any of the symptoms listed below, you may need GI specialty care. Dr. Gregory S. Smith is board certified in both gastroenterology and hepatology. Call to make an appointment for a consultation and our specialists will use Investigative Gastroenterology to solve your GI case.

What is Investigative Gastroenterology? The best way to describe Dr. Smith’s Investigative Gastroenterology is: Never giving up on the patient until the patient gives up. If anyone can get to the bottom of your digestive mystery, it’s Dr. Smith! So don’t write off your G.I. problems as a cold case or lost cause. No matter what your G.I. mystery is, stick with Dr. Gregory Smith and he will take the time to thoroughly investigate your G.I. Health until your “case” is solved.
